Art and science was said like two sides of a coin. The two disciplines are not as interconnected, but apparently boils down to one big picture intact; Universe. The Universe is the mouth of all scientific disciplines. The Universe is all beginning and end of everything.

Flukeminimix with Gustaff H. Iskandar and Ine Arini hold a collaborative project called Pulsating Star. This project is an attempt to bring together, close and re-familiarizing between humans with nature, humans with the universe, humans with God; through a free experimentation where art and science are integrated and processed into a form of motion, sound, music and visuals each respond to one another so intertwined into a single harmonious whole. This project is also a symbol of that art and science can co-exist and collaborate with each other for the good of mankind.

Art that is intended on Pulsating Star project is a contemporary dance and experimental music and its supporters visualization. While science are intended scientific data in the form of radio waves footage recorded by Radio Telescope Bosscha Observatory, Lembang, Indonesia.

The first show of Pulsating Star was held at Wisma Kerkhoven, one of the rooms in the Bosscha Observatory area, on the afternoon of 20 April 2013. An experimental musical and dance performance that is claimed as the first and the only performance of contemporary music that ever been held in Bosscha Observatory over the last 90 years. This show is also part of the Bulan Budaya Bernalar Indonesia – STEAMFest 2013. This show is a spontaneous response to the space (Bosscha – the venue where the show was held), and also in response to the data sounds (Radio waves are transferred into sound) recorded from outer space by Bosscha Observatory.

Gustaff H. Iskandar played the recording of Rha-Jah(1) (Rajah Buhun) performed by Budi “Dalton” Setiawan, a composition that consists of layer of radiowave signals from Sunspot that Bosscha Observatory recorded in 2012; radiowave sounds sampling of Pulsar PSR B0329+54 which has a period close to 0.71452 rotation/second, and electro-accoustic Gamelan. Flukeminimix responded the sounds with the music they played; and Ine Arini responded with the dance performance.

The second show called “Menyapa Semesta” was held on May 24, 2013 in Padepokan Seni Mayang Sunda, Bandung. Still with the same concept of experimentation with the show before, but this time the Rajah performed live by Hermana HMT and Flukeminimix assisted by Ary Piul accompaniment of a violin. These performances was live-recorded and documentary-filmed by Sunday Screen [Merespon Ruang].

This documentary film is dedicated full for Bosscha Observatory, K. A. R. Bosscha (May 15 1865 – 26 November 1928), R. A. Kerkhoven (August 27, 1879 – 6 Februari 1940), J. G. E. Gijsbertus voute (June 7, 1879 – August 20, 1963)(2), and Jocelyn Bell Burnell (July 15, 1943)(3). Produced by Bosscha Observatory, Commonroom, Pohaci Studio, Flukeminimix and Sunday Screen.
